NUPSG accuses gov’t of discrimination in implementation of education policies

The President of the National Union of Private Schools-Ghana (NUPSG), Rev. Dr. William Baako, has called on the government to take urgent steps to correct what he has described as discrimination in the implementation of policies and interventions in the education sector.

Speaking to Adom News at the 25th anniversary of Holy Virgin School in Konongo, Rev. Dr. Baako stated that the contribution of private schools to quality education in the country cannot be quantified.

He wonders why the government continues to neglect and discriminate against them in its policy direction and interventions in the educational system.

He acknowledged that private schools are profit-making entities; however, the pupils are Ghanaians and must have equal rights to benefit from all government interventions.

He also called on the government and other stakeholders to join efforts to establish and contribute to achieving the all-inclusive education agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The Director of Holy Virgin School, Francis Adu Aboagye, stated that successive governments must include policies for private schools in their manifestos.

“The private schools are supporting education in Ghana through the various infrastructures we have. So the government should be able to support us to do better and improve the quality of education in the country,” he said.

Meanwhile, the CEO of the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme (NEIP), Kofi Ofosu Nkansah, who was the guest speaker, reiterated the government’s commitment to improving the quality of education and ensuring equal accessibility.
