Nigerian music sensation David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has set a new record on TikTok, achieving the highest viewership for a live stream in Africa.
The October 30th session, which Davido co-hosted with popular TikTok influencers Peller, Jarvis, and Jo Blaq, attracted a total of 389,800 viewers. This feat surpasses all previous live-stream records on the platform in the region.
During the stream, which saw over 164,000 simultaneous viewers, Davido received an impressive 377 lion gifts from fans. Each lion gift, valued at $400, contributed to an overall gift totaling about $153,000.
Generously, Davido announced that the proceeds from the gifts would be shared with his co-hosts, acknowledging their collaborative efforts in making the event a success.
Previously, Peller held the title for Africa’s most-watched TikTok live stream, a record he set during a stream with singer Tiwa Savage.
Their live stream comes ahead of Davido’s upcoming release, “Awuke.”
