Nigeria claimed the 2024 U-20 WAFU B Cup of Nations title with a 2-1 win over Ghana on Wednesday, October 30.
The Flying Eagles dominated the first half and were rewarded when Kparobo Arierhi opened the scoring in the 33rd minute with a precise finish.
Just 10 minutes later, Arierhi found the net again, firing into the top left corner after a loose ball in the box, giving Nigeria a comfortable 2-0 lead heading into halftime.
Desmond Ofei’s Black Satellites struggled in the first half but returned stronger after the break, controlling possession and pushing forward. Hayford Adu Boahen created chances in the final third, but Ghana couldn’t convert.
Ghana finally got on the scoreboard in the 75th minute when Jerry Afriyie headed in his fifth goal of the tournament, giving his side a glimmer of hope. However, despite Ghana’s late rally, Nigeria held firm to secure the win and claim the championship.
Both teams will advance to next year’s U-20 Africa Cup of Nations.
