The National Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate, John Mahama has criticised the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for allegedly distributing cooking oils in an attempt to garner votes in the upcoming December 7 elections.
Mr Mahama has asserted that the NPP’s mismanagement has led to economic hardship and widespread poverty.
As a result, the party is now forced to resort to sharing basic essentials the ordinary Ghanaian could have afforded in the past years to win votes.
The former President was reacting to a viral video which he said purportedly captured NPP members engaging in the distribution of cooking oil in some markets.
“They are going to bring money and things trying to buy your votes but don’t be persuaded. I saw a video of them in a market distributing cooking oil and it is because they have impoverished the people and made 870k Ghanaians fall below the poverty line that is why you can go and deceive them with a bottle of oil.
“Otherwise Ghanaians should be able to buy their own oil why would you deceive them with a bottle of oil with the intent of persuading them to vote for you,” he stated while addressing electorates as part of his Northern regional campaign tour.
Mr Mahama and the NDC have been reminding electorates in the Northern East region of the economic destruction caused by the NPP, pushing many into the the poverty line.
According to him, the 2024 elections is crucial to the growth and development of the country and it citizens, hence voters should not be swayed by the sharing of monies and basic products.
The NDC says, their target is to empower people and improve livelihoods.
John Mahama indicated that his party will respect voters by selling promising messages and spreading solutions which will bring hope to the people.
