Accord DJs some respect – Kofi Hayford admonishes

-

Joy FM broadcaster Kofi Hayford has expressed concern over the lack of respect often shown toward the disc jockeying profession.

According to Kofi Hayford, some Ghanaians have, over the years, looked down on DJs, viewing their craft as inferior. Sharing his thoughts on October 25, 2024, as a guest on the Road to Guinness Ghana DJ Awards 2024 show on Joy Prime, he asserted that this attitude should not be encouraged.

Commending Merqury Republic, organizers of the DJ Awards, for hosting the event for the 12th consecutive time, Kofi Hayford recounted to host Michelle Agyekum a recent encounter with a former schoolmate who disparaged his profession.

“A mate from basic school messaged me, saying he was disappointed I became a radio broadcaster. He thought I’d end up as a doctor since I was smart in school. A year later, he sends me a song, asking if I could feature his younger brother on my Tuesday show, The Overdrive on Joy FM,” Kofi narrated.

The vibrant broadcaster remarked, “What kind of disrespect is that?”

Kofi Hayford, known for his skillful music presentation, believes that before the establishment of the Guinness Ghana DJ Awards, many people did not regard the DJ profession seriously, and some still hold this view.

He argued that this misconception must change, as entertaining listeners through DJing is both a science and an art that many would struggle to master.

He emphasized that DJs play a crucial role in musical radio shows, which might not endure without their significant contributions. “It’s about time people moved past the misconception that DJs have nothing valuable to offer,” he advised.

“And that’s why I say Merqury Republic has done a brilliant job in creating the Guinness Ghana DJ Awards and running it successfully for 12 solid years. I’d commend them every single year,” Kofi added.

The 12th edition of the Guinness Ghana DJ Awards will take place at the Palms Convention Center on November 9, featuring performances from some of Ghana’s top DJs.
