Former New Patriotic Pary (NPP) General Secretary, Kwabena Agyei Agyapong, has praised Vice President and NPP Presidential candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, as a leader of remarkable integrity, asserting that he embodies the leadership qualities Ghana needs today.
Since contesting with Dr. Bawumia in the NPP flagbearer race, Mr Agyapong has pledged his support for the Vice President, actively joining him on campaign trails nationwide.
Addressing the chiefs and people of Adaklu in the Volta Region on Tuesday, Mr Agyapong extolled Dr. Bawumia’s integrity and character, reflecting on his eight years in the Vice Presidency.
“This is a man of outstanding personal integrity. He has served as Vice President for eight years without a blemish on his record, which speaks volumes about his character. He understands, cares for, and genuinely connects with people. He is the kind of leader Ghanaians need,” he said.
Mr Agyapong also highlighted the historic significance of Dr. Bawumia’s candidacy, underscoring its impact on perceptions of the NPP.
“His election as NPP flagbearer has dispelled the notion of the NPP as an Akan party,” Agyapong noted, emphasizing the importance of Bawumia’s victory as the first Muslim to lead a major political party in Ghana.
“Dr. Bawumia made history, winning with 61% of the vote – a record for a first-time aspirant in our party’s history. Neither Adu Boahene, Kufuor, nor Nana Akufo-Addo achieved that on their first try. He did. Dr. Bawumia is embraced by Christians, Muslims, and traditionalists alike. Wherever he goes, he shows respect and earns it in return,” he added.
