The Deputy Minister for Works and Housing, Dr. Prince Hamid Armah, has launched a comprehensive “Roadmap to Decarbonize Ghana’s Building and Construction Industry”.
The initiative seeks to reduce emissions throughout the construction value chain, addressing the sector’s significant environmental impact.
Speaking at the launch, Dr Armah highlighted the growing urgency for sustainable construction practices, noting that the sector accounts for 37% of global energy-related carbon emissions and 40% of energy consumption.
The roadmap outlines strategic actions, including the use of energy-efficient systems, green building materials, and innovative technologies, all aimed at minimizing the industry’s environmental footprint.
The initiative is a result of Ghana’s collaboration with key partners such as UN-Habitat, the United Nations Environment Programme, and the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPs).
Dr. Armah emphasized that the roadmap is a call to action for all stakeholders in the industry, urging for a united effort to create a more resilient and sustainable built environment.
“Our built environment deeply influences our quality of life and reflects our values. Together, we can create a greener, more sustainable Ghana,” he added.
The roadmap is expected to guide the country’s transition towards eco-friendly building practices as part of Ghana’s broader efforts to combat climate change.
