Subin MP slams Gabby Otchere-Darko’s ‘Prime Minister’ tag [Listen]

New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament for Subin Constituency, Eugene Boakye Antwi, has once again slammed President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s cousin, Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko, accusing him of exerting undue influence within the government.

During an interview on Okay FM, on Wednesday, October 23, 2024, the Subin MP alleged that some of the President’s relatives are leading the government astray.

“I didn’t say ministerial; journalists should report accurately. I said Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko. Mention his name. Or are you afraid of him? Gabby Otchere-Darko, the so-called ‘Ghanaian prime minister’ whom no one has elected… people call him that, and he enjoys it. I am saying that Gabby Otchere-Darko, who no Ghanaian has elected, formed the Dankwa Institute. How many from the Dankwa Institute do you see in government? Yet, the only person I know who has served the party is my brother Nana Attobrah Quaicoe. The rest who have been appointed as ministers are there because of Gabby. I am telling you.”

Mr. Boakye Antwi further claimed, Gabby Otchere-Darko and Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta are responsible for the government’s missteps.

“Since the NPP came into power, two people—Ken Ofori-Atta, who has mismanaged the economy, and Gabby Otchere-Darko, who operates behind the scenes making appointments—are still at it. We are not afraid; we’re just quiet because of our love for the party,” he said.

He also questioned Gabby’s authority, emphasizing that despite not holding any official government position or being elected, he appears to wield significant power.

“He acts like he has all the wisdom in the world, writing about everything on social media, but he’s never stood for election. Who gave him the right to speak for Ghana? Who is Gabby? Yesterday, as we headed to Parliament to make decisions, he was on social media telling us what to do,” the MP fumed.

Mr. Otchere-Darko, a private legal practitioner, has often been described as having considerable influence within his cousin’s government, with some referring to him as Ghana’s “de facto Prime Minister.”
