Two injured in chieftaincy dispute at Agyako Buoho

-

Two residents of the Agyako Buoho community in the Ashanti Region have sustained injuries following a clash over a chieftaincy dispute in the area.

An alleged secret enstoolment of a new chief in the area is being resisted by a section of the community, leading to the clash.

Some residents say they are living in fear as heavily built men parade the town with motorbikes.

A former presiding member of the Afigya Kwabre South District Assembly, Duncan Nkrumah Poku, confirmed the incident to Adom News.

Mr Poku said there is tension as the palace is besieged to prevent some royals from going ahead with the enstoolment.

“We know that Gyaasehene is selected from the Tano family, that is why we have sent a petition to Manhyia but we have been reliably informed that they want to enstool a new Gyaasehene this evening which we won’t allow,” he said.

He claimed some heavily-built men and Police personnel were dispatched to assault the protestors, leading to the injury of two, who have been sent to the hospital.

The residents have appealed to the Ashanti Regional Minister and the Ashanti Regional Police commander to intervene to maintain peace.
