Private legal practitioner, Kweku Paintsil, has criticized the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, for adjourning Parliament indefinitely amid ongoing tensions between Member of Parliament of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) over the majority position.
This controversy arose after four parliamentary seats were declared vacant, leading to a heated dispute.
In response, the NPP filed a motion to recall Parliament, challenging the Speaker’s decision.
Reacting to this, Lawyer Paintsil argued that, the Speaker’s ruling was flawed and defied a Supreme Court decision.
According to him, the Speaker’s actions, backed by the NDC, have obstructed the proper enforcement of the court’s ruling.
“The Speaker’s decision to adjourn Parliament is fundamentally wrong. It has hindered the manifestation of the Supreme Court’s ruling,” he stated.
Lawyer Paintsil condemned the recent happenings in Parliament, describing them as an example of severe indiscipline.
“What we witnessed in Parliament is indiscipline of the highest order, and the Speaker’s justification for adjourning the session was completely flawed,” he added.
