Black Satellites coach, Desmond Ofei has expressed his delight after his team secured a spot in the semifinals of the ongoing WAFU Zone B U-20 Championship.
Ghana’s U-20 team advanced to the semifinals following a 1-1 draw against Togo on Wednesday afternoon.
The result ensured that the Black Satellites finished at the top of their group with five points from three matches, having secured one win and two draws.
Speaking in his post-match interview, Ofei shared his satisfaction with the team’s progress.
“We are very happy. I think the first target in every tournament is to qualify for the semifinals, and we have achieved that. Now, all focus is on the semis. I want to congratulate Togo; they fought really hard. Our boys also gave their best, and we are thrilled to be in the semifinals,” he said.
Reflecting on the match, Ofei noted the challenges his team faced.
“Today’s game was really tough. Togo is a very good team, and tactically, it was challenging. But in the end, we managed to secure qualification, so we are happy,” he added.
Ghana will know its semifinal opponent in the WAFU Zone B U-20 Championship on Thursday, once Group B matches are completed.
The WAFU B U-20 Championship serves as a qualifier for the 2025 Africa U-20 Cup of Nations, with the top two teams earning spots in the continental tournament.
The 2025 U-20 AFCON will also provide a pathway to the 2025 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Chile, where the top four teams will qualify.
