Parliament: Blame NPP MPs for delays in conduct of govt business – Mahama Ayariga

-

Member of Parliament for Bawku Central, Mahama Ayariga has said the New Patriotic Party (NPP) caucus in Parliament is to blame for the delays in government business.

His comments come in response to the NPP MPs, led by Alexander Afenyo-Markin, boycotting Tuesday’s parliamentary session after Members of Parliament from the National Democratic Congress (NDC) occupied the Majority side of the Chamber.

Speaker Alban Bagbin, referencing a Supreme Court ruling that stayed his declaration of four vacant parliamentary seats, adjourned Parliament indefinitely on Tuesday, October 22.

In an interview with Citi News, Mahama Ayariga stressed that the NDC caucus is prepared to return to Parliament whenever the Speaker recalls the House, reaffirming their readiness to proceed with legislative duties.

“We are in opposition and not responsible for conducting government business, but we came in full numbers, ready to support them [NPP MPs] in carrying out government business. He [Afenyo-Markin] was more concerned with safeguarding his position as a former Majority Leader.

“If the claim is that public resources were wasted, it’s not on us. We were in the chamber, ready for business. He is the one who abandoned his responsibilities. So who is truly wasting public resources?” he said.
