Gabby Otchere-Darko reacts to tussle in Parliament

-

A leading member of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Gabby Otchere-Darko has reacted to the power struggle in Parliament.

He urged Members of Parliament of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and National Democratic Congress (NDC) to concentrate on convincing voters about their plans for job creation, reducing the cost of living, improving road infrastructure, ensuring access to health and education, and making the economy more predictable for business decisions as the 2024 general elections approach.

He said Ghanaians do not need “macho drama” in Parliament, especially with just days remaining until the elections, noting that theatrics won’t keep factory plants running 24/7.

Commenting on the ongoing dispute between NPP and NDC lawmakers regarding who should sit on the Majority side, Mr. Otchere-Darko commended Mr. Afenyo Markin, the Majority Leader, for his leadership, maturity, patriotism, and wisdom.

He praised Mr. Afenyo Markin for his decision to avoid any unnecessary potential confrontations, despite the NDC’s notice of their intention to ignore the Supreme Court and claim the majority.

“He told Peace FM this morning that the NPP MPs have no interest in joining such a circus in Parliament tomorrow, fighting the NDC over chairs – who should occupy the Majority side of the House.

“The NPP will stay away from Parliament until the Speaker makes it clear that he will adhere to the Supreme Court directive until the final determination of the court on the fate of the MPs whose seats were declared by the Speaker as vacant. For Markin, the Minority are looking for a confrontation but ‘I won’t give them that theatre.’ We have a few weeks to Dec 7, we don’t need such macho drama.

“Let the parties focus on convincing the undecided and unconvinced how they will create jobs, reduce cost of living, fix our roads, secure our access to health and education, and make our economy more predictable for business decisions. The theatrics don’t keep factory plants on 24-7. Except perhaps, drinking bars.” he said in a post on social media.
