Majority-Minority Brouhaha: NDC rightfully holds Majority – A.B.A. Fuseini

-

The Member of Parliament for Sagnarigu, Alhassan Bashir Alhassan Fuseini, has affirmed that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) caucus has rightfully taken its position as the Majority in Parliament.

Ahead of the Speaker’s address on Tuesday, October 22, 2024, A.B.A. Fuseini asserted that no authority other than the Speaker can dictate how Parliament should function.

He stressed that the Speaker, as the sole authority of the legislature, has the final say in the decisions of the House.

He explained that the declaration of four parliamentary seats as vacant, followed by the Speaker’s directive confirming the NDC caucus as the Majority, is what they are adhering to.

“Mr. Speaker is in charge of this House, so nobody, not even the President, can instruct the Speaker on how to run it. The Speaker’s authority is final, and we follow his ruling. We are the Majority, and we are sitting where we should be. I don’t see any problem here,” Fuseini stated in an exclusive interview with GhanaWeb on October 22, 2024.

In response to concerns about potential clashes between the NPP and NDC caucuses, Fuseini dismissed the rumours of conflict, emphasizing the mutual respect between both sides and their commitment to following parliamentary procedures.

“I don’t expect any trouble because we’ve taken our rightful place. If they arrive and we’re in the right position, there’s no reason for conflict. We are colleagues and will respect one another. As long as we adhere to the rules and standing orders of the House, there shouldn’t be any issues,” he added.
