Black Stars players are not hungry – FA Cup committee chairman

-

FA Cup Committee Chairman, Wilson Arthur has attributed Black Stars’ poor run of form to a lack of hunger from the playing body.

The senior national team has struggled in recent times failing to impress even against lower-ranked nations.

The team suffered another upset after losing 2-0 to Sudan in the return leg of the doubleheader in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers, led by former Ghana coach Kwesi Appiah.

Arthur, who also doubles as the owner of Skyy FC believes the core issue is the attitude of foreign-based players, suggesting that they lack the drive and commitment that local-based players would bring to the team.

“National teams you would expect that we will wallop them four nil, six nil are beating us all of a sudden and it is because…they are using a lot of their local players so they are able to camp longer and they are able to play as a team as a unit,” he told Citi Sports.

“What we are doing is inviting people to come and play. Most of them are not hungry. They don’t want it so much,” he added.

The Black Stars, who sit 3rd in Group F with two points will regroup for the final games of the qualifiers against Niger and Angola next month.

They will hope Sudan, who sit 2nd with seven points will lose their final two games to be able to qualify.
