Ghana Institute of Safety and Environmental Professionals (GhISEP) has outlined four recommendations to ensure a safe environment following the disaster at Buduburam.

In a statement, GhiSEP expressed deep concern about the tragic explosion which claimed three lives and left over 40 injured.

The accident occurred on Monday afternoon during a rock-blasting operation along the Buduburam section of the Accra-Winneba highway as part of a construction project by Nag Fairmont.

According to GhiSEP, the incident underscores the urgent need for improved safety protocols in Ghana’s construction industry.

In this regard, the institute has recommended enhanced regulatory oversight, mandatory safety training, strict adherence to safety protocols and regular site inspections and audits.

Emphasising that this tragic incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of prioritising safety in our industries, GhiSEP urged all stakeholders to join forces in preventing such incidents and ensuring a safe working environment for all.

The institute has also demanded a thorough investigation and accountability from the contractor and all relevant stakeholders.
