Gov’t sets up 5-member committee to probe Buduburam disaster

The government has set up a five-member committee to probe the rocking blasting that claimed three lives and left scores injured at Buduburam.

The Central Regional Minister, Justina Marigold Assan disclosed this in an interview with Adom News.

Madam Assan said the committee will be chaired by the District Chief Executive of Gomoa East (DCE), Solomon Darko Quarm, representatives from the traditional authorities, the National Disaster Management Organisation (NaDMO) and the Police.

The committee according to her as part of their tasks will also recommend appropriate compensation for the affected residents.

“The committee will go round the community, look for all the affected victims not just the injured or deceased but those whose properties were destroyed,” she said,

She said, currently the government in collaboration with Nag Fairmont Construction Company have paid all the medical bills for the affected victims.

The Minister commended the Ghana Police, NaDMO, and chiefs of Gomoa Buduburam for the swift response and also the youth of Buduburam for not taken the laws into their hands by attacking the workers.

The accident occurred on Monday afternoon during a rock-blasting operation along the Buduburam section of the Accra-Winneba highway as part of a construction project by Nag Fairmont.
