Former Vice President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), George Afriyie is urging football fans to continue supporting Otto Addo amid Ghana’s disappointing performances in the ongoing 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.
Addo, 45, faces significant scrutiny following Ghana’s 2-0 defeat to Sudan in the second leg of the Matchday four fixtures on Tuesday.
This loss has left Ghana in third place in Group F, with only two points, putting the team at risk of missing the continental tournament for the first time since 2004.
While calls for Addo’s dismissal have surfaced, Afriyie emphasizes the importance of maintaining faith in him and allowing him to carry on with his current project.
“I am not one of those who will say we have to sack Otto. We have to keep faith with him and make sure that he continues the process he has started because remember we still have the World Cup qualifiers,” Afriyie said on Asempa FM‘s Ultimate Sports Show.
“We have to give him the needed support. Going forward in this Afcon [qualifiers], let’s accept that we are out and allow Otto to take his decisions and learn on the job and then we move forward,” he added.
To have any chance of qualifying for the tournament in Morocco, Ghana must secure victories in their final two qualifiers against Angola and Niger in November, while also hoping that Sudan, currently in second place with seven points, falters in their remaining matches.
Angola has already qualified with 12 points, while Niger sits at the bottom of the group with just one point.
