2025 AFCONQ: We are doomed if Black Stars fail to qualify – Agyemang-Badu

-

Former Black Stars midfielder, Emmanuel Agyemang-Badu beleives football in the country will be doomed should the Black Stars fail to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Ghana, who is four-time African champion, is without a win after three games into the qualifying games.

The Black Stars shockingly suffered a 1-0 defeat to Angola at the Baba Yara Stadium before a 1-1 draw against Niger.

Otto Addo’s men were hoping to secure their first win but were held to a goalless scoreline against Sudan in the first leg of the doubleheader at the Accra Sports Stadium last week which leave them at the 3rd spot with two points.

However, speaking to Citi Sports, Agyemang-Badu, who played in the 2015 AFCON final with the Black Stars believes that failure to qualify would be a bad mark in Ghana football.

“In case it happens, then the football is dipping. For some years, Ghanaians didn’t ask how we were going to qualify, they always spoke about how to win the cup (AFCON) but if we have left the cup to the semifinals, to quarterfinals and now we are struggling at the group stages and now even qualification is getting problematic,” the U-20 FIFA World Cup winner said.

“Let’s pray it doesn’t get there because if it gets there, that means our football is doomed,” he added.

Meanwhile, Ghana will clash with Sudan in the return fixture later today at the Martyrs of February Stadium later today with kick-off scheduled for 13:00 GMT.
