It’s good Angola won against Niger – Otto Addo speaks on Black Stars 2025 AFCON qualification chances

-

Ghana head coach, Otto Addo, remains optimistic about the Black Stars’ chances of qualifying for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), despite not winning in their first three matches.

In their first leg of the doubleheader, the Black Stars were held to a 0-0 draw by Sudan at the Accra Sports Stadium, while Angola defeated Niger to maintain their perfect record in the qualifiers.

These results have left Ghana with a challenging path ahead, but Addo believes the team can still control their fate.

Ahead of the crucial second leg against Sudan in Libya, Addo commented, “I think it was good that Angola won. If Niger had won, they would have overtaken us, and that would have been problematic.”

“The situation is still in our hands, and we need to win this match tomorrow. As long as we’re in second place, I believe we can defeat any of the teams we’ve faced so far. We’re aiming for a win tomorrow to get back on track,” he added.

A victory for Ghana would see them leapfrog Sudan in the standings, strengthening their position ahead of the final two qualifying matches in November.

However, anything less than a win could jeopardize their chances of securing a spot in next year’s tournament in Morocco.

The match is set to take place at the Martyrs of February Stadium, with kick-off scheduled for 13:00 GMT.
