Team Ghana made a remarkable splash at the 2024 Africa Aquatics Zone 2 Championship, dominating the competition and securing a total of 56 medals across both junior and senior categories.
Led by Abeiku Jackson, the Ghana Swim Team excelled, earning 21 gold, 20 silver, and 15 bronze medals.
The standout performance came from Harry Stacey, who stole the spotlight with multiple wins in the 100m freestyle, 200m backstroke, and 50m freestyle, establishing himself as a star at the championship held in Borteyman.
Abeiku Jackson also made his mark with a gold medal, while other notable team members like Nubia Adjei, Titus T. Ankra, Abdellah Mercedes Y., Snowden Ivan, and Jada Yankey contributed to the team’s success.
Particularly impressive was 12-year-old Jada Yankey, the youngest discovery at the event, who outshone even her senior competitors.
She is seen as a rising star and a promising future for Ghanaian female swimming.
Mrs. Farida Alhassan, Treasurer of the Ghana Swimming Association and a member of both African Aquatics and World Aquatics committees, expressed optimism about the future of swimming in Ghana.
She highlighted the country’s hopes for an Olympic gold medal, praising the dedication and hard work of the athletes.
Mrs. Alhassan specifically mentioned Jada Yankey as a potential Olympic contender, underscoring her bright prospects in the sport.
