2025 AFCONQ: I cannot imagine Ghana not qualifying – CK Akonnor

-

Former Black Stars coach, Charles Kwablan Akonnor, remains hopeful about Ghana’s chances of qualifying for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), despite the team’s slow start in the qualifiers.

Ghana, a four-time African champion has amassed just two points from a possible nine after three matches.

The Black Stars have drawn against Niger and Sudan and suffered a defeat to Angola, leaving them in third place in Group F.

However, Akonnor is confident the Black Stars can turn things around. “I can’t imagine Ghana not qualifying for AFCON. They have to. It’s possible; we have the players to make it happen,” Akonnor told Joy Sports.

“I can’t imagine them [Ghana] not qualifying for AFCON. They will have to. It is possible; we have the men to do this job,” Akonnor told Joy Sports.

“The short term is that we win the upcoming matches. We don’t have any other choice than to win. That is something possible. If you can go to Mali to win convincingly, I think you can win against Sudan. Then, Angola compared to Mali is not a big deal. All we need now is to win,” he added.

Ghana’s next game is against Sudan on Tuesday, October 15, at the Martyrs of February Stadium, with kick-off scheduled for 13:00 GMT.
