Highway Authority closes Atebubu-Prang stretch due to river overflow

-

The Ghana Highway Authority (GHA) has announced the closure of the Atebubu-Prang stretch of the Kumasi-Yeji highway following the overflow of the Nyomoase River, which has flooded the Nyomoase bridge.

The Regional Director of the GHA, Emmanuel Okangklu, disclosed that the river’s overflow has made the bridge impassable, posing a significant threat to motorists and commuters traveling along the busy stretch.

The closure comes as part of safety protocols, especially given that the bridge is still under a waiting period after undergoing recent construction work.

In a statement, Mr. Okangklu urged drivers and travelers to avoid the area and instead use alternative routes.

He emphasized that, the situation on the bridge is critical, and any attempts to cross it in its current state could be life-threatening.

He also warned drivers not to be influenced by local residents who might offer to guide them through the flooded bridge, noting that any such attempts could lead to deadly accidents.

The GHA is monitoring the situation closely and will keep the public informed about further developments.

Mr. Okangklu reiterated that, once the water levels recede and the bridge is deemed safe, normal traffic will resume.
