The Ghana Medical Association (GMA) has admonished members to continue providing full services without interruptions amidst Organised Labour‘s declaration of a strike action.
The nationwide industrial action expected to commence on Thursday, October 10, 2024, is to mount pressure on the government to take decisive action against illegal mining, commonly known as “galamsey.”
A statement issued by the GMA President, Dr. (Med) Frank Serebour noted the association is in solidarity with Organised Labour.
However, the Association has not declared a roadmap for the strike, hence the directive.
“The National Executive Council (NEC) will give further information when necessary.
Thank you,” the statement added.
The strike declaration has been met with opposition with some groups including the Technical University Teachers Association of Ghana (TUTAG) alleging they were not consulted before the announcement.
A group calling themselves “Concerned Members of Organised Labour” has publicly criticized how the strike was communicated.
While they support the fight against galamsey, they argue that the leadership’s approach to declaring the strike was inappropriate.
