2025 AFCONQ: Black Stars will recover from poor start – Akonnor

-

Former Black Stars coach, Charles Kwabla Akonnor remains optimistic about the team’s chances of recovery following a tough start to the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.

Under the guidance of Otto Addo, the team began their campaign poorly, suffering a 1-0 defeat to Angola in their opening match at Baba Yara Stadium, followed by a 1-1 draw against Niger.

Following the disappointing results, Akonnor expressed his frustration but maintained his confidence in the team’s ability to bounce back.

“It’s not good to play two matches and get one point, but I know and hope they will bounce back,” he told Graphic Sports.

Currently, the Black Stars are third in their group, with just one point from their first two matches.

Otto Addo and his charges will continue their qualifying efforts with two matches against Sudan in the Matchdays three and four games.

The first leg is set for Thursday, October 10, at the Accra Sports Stadium, with the return match scheduled for October 14 at the Martyrs of February Stadium in Libya.

On Monday, the Black Stars held their first training session at the Accra Sports Stadium, with 11 players in attendance.

The remaining players are expected to join the camp later today for a second training session.
