The leadership of the Cocoa Carriers Association has decided to suspend its indefinite sit-down strike, which started on Monday, October 7.
This comes after a discussion with the management of the Cocoa Marketing Company (CMC) and a representative from the Ghana Cocoa Board.
In an interview, the National Chairman of the Cocoa Carriers Association, Raymond Atanga Abobiga, revealed that management has asked workers to return to their posts, assuring them that their concerns regarding working conditions would be addressed within a week.
Mr. Abobiga noted that workers at the CMC depots in Tema, Takoradi, and Kumasi have resumed their duties, optimistic that their grievances will be resolved within the promised timeframe.
“We negotiated with our directors and COCOBOD and agreed to continue working while they reconsider our pay increase. So, we decided to return to work today [Tuesday, October 8], hoping for a positive outcome from them.
“However, when I reported for duty, I was informed that I should not be working. My colleagues in Kumasi insisted that if I wasn’t working, they wouldn’t either. Following this, a call came from top management instructing me to work.
“So currently, operations are back to normal in Tema, Takoradi, and Kumasi,” he told Citi News.
