2025 AFCONQ: I will be surprised if… – CK Akonnor

-

Former Ghana coach, CK Akonnor, says he will surprised if the Black Stars fail to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

The four-time African champions began their qualifying campaign poorly.

The Black Stars suffered a 1-0 loss to Angola at Baba Yara Stadium in their opening match, followed by a 1-1 draw against Niger in their second Group F game in Berkane which has left them at the 3rd spot with a point.

Despite the rocky start, Akonnor, in an interview with Graphic Sports, stated that qualifying for the tournament should not pose a significant challenge.

“Qualifying should not be a problem. I will be surprised if they don’t qualify, but we have to do well when we play in the competition proper,” he said.

The Black Stars are set to continue their qualifying efforts with two matches against Sudan.

The first leg will be held at the Accra Sports Stadium on Thursday, October 10, followed by the return leg on October 14 at the Martyrs of February Stadium in Libya.

The team has begun training at the Accra Sports Stadium, with 11 players having opened camp on Monday.

An additional eight players joined on Tuesday morning, and the rest are expected to arrive later today.

The 2025 AFCON tournament will take place in Morocco.
