The Divisional Executives Council of the Public Services Workers Union (PSWU) of the Trades Union Congress (TUC), Ghana, representing the National Identification Authority (NIA) Division, has declared an industrial strike starting today, October 7.
In a statement released on Sunday, October 6, the workers cited the employer’s failure to implement their newly approved Scheme of Service as the reason for the strike.
The aggrieved workers have vowed to continue the industrial action until the scheme is fully implemented.
“After exercising great patience and making repeated requests, we regret to announce that your refusal to operationalize the newly approved Scheme of Service (SoS) has left us with no choice but to take this decisive action beginning Monday, October 7, 2024. Consequently, none of our members will report to work until the scheme is fully implemented.”
The workers further described the failure to implement the scheme as a severe breach of trust and a threat to their welfare.
“The SoS, which was remarkably approved by the Public Services Commission (PSC) within two weeks in March, is essential for our collective growth and survival. Management’s continued refusal to enforce this crucial document is a betrayal of trust and an attack on our well-being.”
