2025 AFCONQ: Be careful facing Kwesi Appiah – Otto Addo cautioned

-

Veteran sports broadcaster, Kwabena Yeboah has issued a word of caution to Otto Addo ahead of Ghana’s 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers, where the Black Stars will face a familiar foe—Kwesi Appiah.

Appiah, a former head coach of the Black Stars, now leads Sudan and will be up against his old team in a crucial doubleheader.

Yeboah, expressing his concerns, emphasized that Appiah’s deep knowledge of the Black Stars gained from his time as both a former captain and coach, as well as his current role as an executive committee member of the Ghana Football Association (GFA)—could be a significant advantage.

“He knows all the inner workings of the Black Stars and is currently an executive committee member of the FA, who sits in our meetings. I mean, it’s unbelievable,” Yeboah, who is the President of the Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) remarked.

“I don’t know to what extent this weighs on you, and it will be surprising if it doesn’t really play on your mind,” he added.

The Black Stars will face Sudan first on October 10 at the Accra Sports Stadium, before the return leg on October 15 at the Martyrs of February Stadium.

Currently third in their group with only one point, Ghana will be eager to secure all six points from these matches to improve their chances of qualifying for the 2025 AFCON in Morocco.

Otto Addo and his squad are set to begin their training camp in Accra on Monday.
