2025 AFCON: Kotoko, Samartex celebrate players for earning Black Stars call-up for Sudan games

-

Asante Kotoko and FC Samartex have honoured their players for getting a call-up to the Black Stars.

Frederick Asare from Kotoko and Isaac Afful have been included in Ghana’s 25-man squad for the upcoming doubleheader against Sudan in the qualifiers for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

This will be Asare’s third time representing the national team, while Afful earns his first call-up.

Afful’s consistent performance helped Samartex clinch the Ghana Premier League title last season. He also made a significant contribution during Samartex’s debut CAF Champions League campaign, playing in every match and scoring an impressive goal against Victoria United at the Accra Sports Stadium.

In celebration of Asare’s selection, Asante Kotoko took to social media, stating, “Otto dialed the #33 and he was on time to answer. Congratulations, TIMING!”

Samartex echoed this sentiment, posting, “Sensational left-back Isaac Afful has earned his first-ever call-up to the Black Stars team, following an unparalleled performance at FC Samartex. Afful will join Black Stars for the double-header against Sudan. A big congratulations, Afful.”

Ghana will host Sudan at the Accra Sports Stadium on Thursday, October 10, 2024, for the third round of AFCON qualifiers, which will be held in Morocco next year.

Four days later, the Black Stars will head to Libya for the fourth round of qualifiers.

Currently, Ghana is positioned third in Group F, having secured just one point following a 1-0 loss to Angola at Baba Yara Sports Stadium and a 1-1 draw against Niger.
