The Senior Staff Association of the Volta River Authority (VRA) has called on the government to publicly announce the withdrawal of a proposed bill aimed at merging the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), Bui Power Authority, Northern Electricity Distribution Company (NEDCo), and VRA into two separate entities.
This follows persistent appeals from the VRA’s Senior Staff, who are urging the government to reconsider the merger plan, citing potential negative impacts on both the VRA and the nation as a whole.
The demand was made during a closed-door meeting between the Minister of State at the Ministry of Energy, Herbert Krapah, and the leadership of the Senior Staff Association of the VRA, aimed at addressing their concerns.
Speaking to Accra based Citi News, Chairman of the Senior Staff Association, Theophilus Tetteh Ahia emphasized that the VRA will continue to push for a public statement confirming the withdrawal of the bill.
“The Minister assured us that the right decision would be made. We expect him to issue a statement as soon as possible today so we can move forward, continue our work, and safeguard the VRA. The VRA is a cornerstone of our economy and national security, and we cannot allow any attempts to dismantle it. We, the staff of VRA, along with the people of this country, are ready to fight for its survival and to ensure the continued supply of reliable and affordable electricity,” he stated.
