The National Tenants Union of Ghana (NATUG) has officially thrown its support behind the housing policies of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) after evaluating the proposals from various political parties.
NATUG commended the NDC’s plans to reform the Rent Control Department into an independent Rent Authority and lauded the party’s promise to introduce low-interest rent advance schemes, alongside promoting affordable housing.
In contrast, NATUG criticized the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) housing pledges, describing them as “recycled, unfulfilled, and broken.”
This endorsement follows NDC flagbearer John Dramani Mahama’s commitment to prioritizing affordable housing for Ghanaians.
NATUG stated that, the NDC’s housing policies align with its objectives, solidifying its endorsement of the party.
In a statement dated Wednesday, October 2, the Union remarked, “After reviewing the housing policies of both parties, the National Tenants Union of Ghana has chosen to endorse the housing proposals of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).”
The Union urged the NDC to deliver on its promises if elected, emphasizing the need for these policies to address the nation’s housing challenges.
NATUG also warned that it would hold Mahama accountable for these commitments during his tenure, should he win the 2024 election.
“We further call on NDC leadership and its presidential candidate, John Dramani Mahama, to fully implement these policies if elected, to ease the housing difficulties faced by many Ghanaians. NATUG will hold a future Mahama administration accountable for these promises between 2025 and 2028.”
