The Ministry of Health has referred a case of alleged medical misconduct at the Trauma and Specialist Hospital in Winneba, Central Region, to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and the Attorney General’s Department for further action.
This decision follows a Ghana Health Service (GHS) investigation, which revealed serious lapses by certain hospital staff following the death of a patient who was transferred to Ojobi and left unattended until she passed away.
In a statement released on Wednesday, October 2, the Ministry disclosed that the GHS probe found the involved employees failed to take appropriate actions, contributing to the patient’s unfortunate death.
While the investigative committee recommended internal disciplinary measures, the Ministry has escalated the case due to the severity of the incident.
To ensure full accountability, the Ministry has sought the Attorney General’s assistance to assess the legal culpability of the staff involved and initiate further legal proceedings if necessary.
The CID has also been engaged to conduct a criminal investigation into the matter.
The Ministry reiterated its commitment to maintaining the highest standards in healthcare and pledged to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
