CODEO deploys 100 observers ahead of December polls

-

The Coalition of Domestic Election Observers (CODEO) has deployed 100 Long-Term Observers (LTOs) across all 16 regions of the country.

These observers will monitor the pre-election environment from October 1, 2024, to December 4, 2024, ahead of the presidential and parliamentary elections scheduled for December 7, 2024.

In a statement released on Wednesday, CODEO detailed that the observers will assess pre-election activities at the constituency level involving key stakeholders such as the Electoral Commission (EC), National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), National Peace Council (NPC), security agencies, political parties, traditional and religious leaders, civil society organizations (CSOs), and the media.

“The observers will be watching for incidents of intimidation, harassment of political opponents and citizens, violence, vote buying, destruction of party paraphernalia, hate speech, human rights abuses, and any violations of election procedures,” CODEO emphasized.

They will also monitor chiefs’ involvement in partisan politics and the abuse of incumbency, among other issues.
