Those oppose to galamsey don’t have solution – Small scale miners

-

The National Communications Director for Ghana National Association of Small-Scale miners, Abdul Razak Alhassan has disclosed that, those fighting against galamsey do not really have the solution.

His comment is in response to critics calling for a complete ban on Small Scale mining due to the impact of galamsey as a measure of fighting against it.

But Abdul Razak on Adom FM’s Burning Issues hosted by Akua Boakyewaa Yiadom disclosed that, a ban is not a solution to the problem.

“Granted the small-scale miners have been sidelined in the fight against galamsey, it would be difficult to fight out the real culprit as of that fact that we know those involved in the illegalities.

“Those telling us to step aside don’t even know the solutions, you are asking to step aside but those to bring up the solutions are chiefs who don’t even understand what galamsey is. But we know them, they mine in the night and we also work in the night” he noted.

Regarding the mining in forest reserves, Abdul Razak Alhassan said small scale miners cannot be held accountable for the destruction of the forest reserves because it is only the large-scale mining companies who are permitted to mine in such areas.

“They keep saying we are responsible for the illegal mining in our forest reserves, but it is only the large-scale mining company that works there. Regardless of what happens, small scale miner is not allowed to min in the forest reserves” he added.
