The Ghana Football Association (GFA) is currently awaiting the decision of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) after a recent inspection of the Accra and Cape Coast stadiums for the upcoming 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier matches.
CAF officials conducted inspections at the two stadiums over the weekend, following a request from the GFA and Ghana’s Ministry of Youth and Sports.
The Baba Yara Sports Stadium, which hosted Ghana’s previous match against Angola, has been banned by CAF due to the poor condition of its pitch.
Speaking at the #SaveGhanaFootball hearing before Parliament’s Sports Select Committee on Monday, September 30, GFA President Kurt Okraku said the final decision now rests with CAF.
“Mr. Chairman, we are waiting for CAF,” he said.
“We have done the hard work, we are waiting for CAF. The experts within us have been there and I would say that I will not comment on their report to me.
“I will wait for CAF to speak.”
The Black Stars are set to face Sudan in a crucial doubleheader later this month.
Ghana will play Sudan at home on Friday, October 11, at a venue yet to be confirmed, before travelling to Libya for the return leg at the Martyrs of February Stadium on Monday, October 14.
Ghana’s recent AFCON qualifiers haven’t gone in their favour, with a 1-0 loss to Angola and a 1-1 draw against Niger, leaving them third in Group F with just one point.
