As Ghana prepares to celebrate Teachers’ Day, Registrar of the National Teaching Council (NTC) Dr. Christian Addai-Poku, has emphasized the need to cherish and recognize the invaluable contributions of teachers to the country’s development.

“Teachers are the backbone of our education system and play a vital role in shaping the future of our nation. Their selfless dedication and hard work deserve admiration and appreciation from all Ghanaians” Dr. Addai-Poku stressed.

Highlighting the significance of teachers, Dr. Addai-Poku noted that they not only impart knowledge but also inspire, motivate, and mentor students to become responsible citizens.

“Teachers’ impact extends beyond the classroom, influencing the social, emotional, and intellectual growth of our youth,” he added.

As the country gears up to celebrate Teachers’ Day, Dr. Addai-Poku called on Ghanaians to show gratitude and respect to teachers for their tireless efforts.

“We must recognize the critical role teachers play in nation-building and acknowledge their sacrifices, creativity, and passion.”

This year’s World Teachers’ Day highlights the need to address the systemic challenges teachers face and to establish a more inclusive dialogue about their role in education.

The 2024 celebrations will focus on “Valuing teacher voices: towards a new social contract for education.”

It will underscore the urgency of calling for and attending to teachers’ voices to address their challenges but, most importantly, to acknowledge and benefit from the expert knowledge and input that they bring to education.
