The Rotaract Club of Accra Ring Road Central has successfully concluded its digital literacy programme, empowering young people in the Nima community with essential computer skills.
The initiative, launched in September 2024, aimed to provide children with a solid foundation in computing, programming, coding, and web development.
In partnership with Woogle Africa and Data Warehouse, the club conducted weekly tutoring sessions at the Aminu Initiative Ghana community centre.
Over the month, 25 children participated in the program, culminating in a graduation ceremony on September 28th.
The programme proved to be highly impactful, with many participants sharing success stories about how the training has benefited them.
Three children were awarded scholarships by Woogle Africa to continue their digital literacy journey.
“This program has opened up a world of possibilities for me,” said one participant. “I never thought I could learn how to create a website or write code.”
The graduation ceremony was attended by several dignitaries, including Mr. Francis Amaning Acquah, President of Isoc Ghana; Skeikh Armiyawo – National spokesman for the Imam Lawrence Bahun Wilson, President of Rotaract RRC; Albert Bahun Wilson, President of Rotaract Club of Accra Ring Road Central; Emmanuel Hammond, Head of Sustainability at Prudential Life Insurance; and IPDRR Dennis Kojo Amakye.
The dignitaries emphasized the importance of digital literacy in today’s world and encouraged the participants to continue learning and growing their skills.
The Rotaract Club of Accra Ring Road Central plans to launch a second cohort of the digital literacy program to ensure that more children in the community have access to these valuable skills.
