AmaZulu FC confirms signing Ghana goalkeeper Richard Ofori

AmaZulu FC has officially announced the signing of Ghana goalkeeper Richard Ofori on a permanent deal, the club announced on Friday.

The 30-year-old joins the South African PSL side as a free agent after leaving Orlando Pirates at the end of his contract.

Ofori, who has previously played for both Pirates and Maritzburg United, expressed his excitement about returning to KwaZulu Natal.

“I’m happy to be here in KZN again,” he told the club website. “It feels like home, as KwaZulu Natal was where I first arrived in South Africa.

“We’re here to work and continue the journey. The team is a big club, the oldest in the country, and I’m here to contribute,” Ofori added.

Ofori also commended the quality of AmaZulu’s goalkeeping department, emphasizing the importance of teamwork among the goalkeepers.

“The team has excellent goalkeepers, and together, we aim to work as a unit to help the club achieve its goals,” Ofori said.

With 33 caps for Ghana, he hopes to use his experience to help the team replicate their successful 2021/22 season, during which they were MTN 8 runners-up and competed in the CAF Champions League group stages.

Ofori’s last appearance for the Black Stars was during the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations against Mozambique.
