Black Stars lack leadership – Stephen Appiah

-

Former Black Stars captain, Stephen Appiah, has expressed concerns over the lack of leadership within the senior national football team.

He made the comment when he appeared before the Parliament Select Committee on Sports on Tuesday.

According to the former midfielder, he does not see clear leadership when the team plays and urged the coaching staff, led by Otto Addo, to make tough decisions, even if they are unpopular with the players.

“As a leader, you have to lead. There are certain decisions that are not popular with the players but you have to take them. Now I am not seeing that in the team,” he said.

“Now, I am not seeing a captain leading the team. When it happens like that, players will think they can do whatever they want,” he added.

The Black Stars are set to regroup ahead of their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying doubleheader against Sudan next month.

Ghana will first host Sudan at a venue yet to be determined following CAF’s ban on the Baba Yara Stadium, before heading to Sudan for the return leg.
