The Mortuary Workers Association of Ghana (MOWAG) has expressed frustration over what it describes as the government’s lack of commitment to resolving their concerns.
According to the Association, the government has repeatedly failed to fulfill promises to improve working conditions for its members.
This comes after MOWAG gave the government a two-week ultimatum, warning that they would resume their suspended strike if their demands were not met.
MOWAG had previously paused the strike in anticipation of government action.
Speaking to Accra-based Citi News, MOWAG’s General Secretary, Richard Kofi Jordan, cautioned that the Association would not hesitate to resume the strike if the government continues to ignore their grievances.
“The government has never shown genuine commitment. They have always danced around the issue, using jargon that amounts to nothing. This time, we are serious and ready to take decisive action.
“We haven’t called off the strike, nor have we suspended it; it’s just on hold. We don’t even need to formally notify them before taking action. We urge the public to pressure the government to address our concerns, because if they start complaining, we won’t be listening.”
