Former New Juaben South Member of Parliament, Dr Mark Assibey-Yeboah has compared the role of an Economic Management Team(EMT) to a church harvest committee.
There have been calls for a dissolution of the team, led by Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia take crucial decisions on how the Ghanaian economy should be managed.
Some have argued that, the team touted by Dr Bawumia as a solid team, is now weak and needs to be looked at to rebound the economy.
Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Wednesday, Dr Assibey-Yeboah, said the EMT is not recognised by the Constitution.
This, the Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) manifesto sub-committee on Economy said makes the committee less effective.
Dr. Assibey-Yeboah indicated that, a Cabinet minister has more authority than EMT members.
“The Economic Management Team is like the church harvest committee; after the harvest, their work is done. It is not in the constitution so they have no authority and any president can say he doesn’t want it in his administration.
“Not every church has a harvest committee so the pastor sometimes takes charge an it works perfectly,” he stated.
