Youth and Sports Minister, Mustapha Ussif has called for patience for national team coaches.
His plea comes after he appeared before the Parliamentary Select Committee on Tuesday to address issues surrounding Black Stars’ participation at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Ivory Coast.
Otto Addo, who signed a three-year contract with the Ghana Football Association (GFA) in March 2024 as Black Stars coach has come under pressure following the winless run in the first two games of the 2025 AFCON qualifiers.
Ghana suffered a 1-0 loss to Angola at the Baba Yara Stadium before being held to a 1-1 with Niger, leaving them third in Group F with just one point.
However, Ussif speaking at the hearing called for patience to allow coaches to build stability within the team.
“If I had my way, we would give our coaches more time. If you look at Senegal, their coach has had six years. That allows him time to understand the team and the players to get results,” Ussif stated.
Addo who replaced Chris Hughton after Ghana’s group-stage exit at the 2023 AFCON will hope to secure wins against Sudan in back-to-back games in the next round of the qualifiers scheduled for next month.
