Youth and Sports Minister, Mustapha Ussif, has revealed that Ghana may soon host the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Women’s Champions League.
Speaking to Parliament’s Sports Select Committee on Tuesday, September 24, the Minister said CAF has approached Ghana about the possibility of hosting the prestigious women’s club competition.
“CAF wrote to us that they wanted us to host the Women’s Champions League. It is because they have seen that we have the necessary facilities, thanks to what we achieved during the African Games,” he said.
The Women’s Champions League, first introduced in 2021, has been hosted by Egypt, Morocco, and Côte d’Ivoire in the past three years.
Since its inception, two Ghanaian teams have competed in the tournament: Hasaacas Ladies, who finished as runners-up in the first edition, and Ampem Darkoa Ladies, who secured fourth place last year.
The Sports Minister also confirmed that Ghana will host the next edition of the African Athletics Championships.
“Next year, Ghana will also host the African Athletics Championships,” he added.
