The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has said there would have been no need for its “Enough is Enough” demonstration if the Electoral Commission (EC) had heeded its concerns on the voter register.
The NDC on Tuesday held a nationwide protest, insisting on an audit of the provisional voter’s register for the 2024 election despite the EC’s decline.
The exercise was on the back of widespread allegations of irregularities that could jeopardise the fairness of the election.
Speaking on Asempa FM Ekosii Sen programme Tuesday, the National Communication officer, Sammy Gyamfi insisted that all the NDC is seeking is a credible register.
“The EC claims to have made corrections but they haven’t even invited us[NDC] to come and look at it. So how can we trust them to do a diligent job?
“If they would have given us the updated version and allow room for cross checks and verifications; would we have gone on the demonstration? he quizzed.
Mr Gyamfi emphasised that, the NDC is committed to ensure the interest of Ghanaians are safeguarded on December 7.
“No matter what John Mahama will still win the election on December 7 but our focus and interest is to ensure there a credible register so nobody is disenfranchised. We are not being selective by highlighting just our strongholds but a national problem,” he stated.
