We anticipated a tough start of the season – Accra Lions coach Ibrahim Tanko

-

Accra Lions FC head coach, Ibrahim Tanko, has revealed that they anticipated a tough start in the 2024/25 Ghana Premier League season.

The former Ghana international made these remarks in a post-game presser after Lions picked up its first point of the season following a 1-1 draw with Karela United at the Naa Sheriga Sports Complex in Tamale in the Matchday three games on Sunday.

Prior to the game against Karela, Accra Lions had suffered back-to-back defeats against Medeama SC and Vision FC in their first two games of the season.

Citing the mass departure of players, Ibrahim Tanko noted that losing so many players got Accra Lions to believe that a tough start to the new season was on the cards.

“I think we knew we were going to have a problem in the first five matches because we transferred almost nine players and we have nine new players to the starting 11 so definitely we knew were going to have a problem but as time goes on I believe that we will be more secured and get our points,” he said.

Accra Lions finished second in the 2023/24 Ghana Premier League season standings.

Accra Lions will hope to continue their mini-revival when they host Nsoatreman FC in the Matchday four games at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium.
