Former President John Dramani Mahama, has pledged to resume the Oil and Gas Enclave Roads Project in the Western Region, a project initiated under the late President John Evans Atta-Mills’ administration.
According to Mahama, the project has been abandoned by the current New Patriotic Party (NPP) government, causing significant hardship for residents in the region.
Speaking during a ceremony in Nkroful, part of the Western Region’s Ellembele Constituency, Mahama emphasized the need for infrastructure development, especially in an area crucial to Ghana’s oil and gas industry.
The occasion marked the 115th birthday celebration of Ghana’s first President, Kwame Nkrumah, who hails from the region.
Local chiefs and residents have long lamented the poor state of the roads, which they say hampers daily life and economic activities.
Mr. Mahama acknowledged their concerns and criticized the current government for abandoning ongoing road works started during the NDC’s time in office.
He stressed the importance of making the Western Region, home to Ghana’s oil resources, worthy of its significance.
Mr. Mahama assured the people that if elected, a future NDC government would prioritize and revive these crucial infrastructure projects, including the Oil and Gas Enclave Roads.
