2025 AFCONQ: Togo rejects Ghana’s request to host Sudan at Stade de Kégué

-

The Togolese Football Federation has declined Ghana’s request to play their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier against Sudan at the Stade de Kégué in Togo.

Ghana’s Football Association (GFA) is currently searching for an alternative venue for their third qualifier match after the Confederation of African Football (CAF) imposed a ban on the Baba Yara Stadium due to its poor playing surface.

Ghana had hoped to secure the Stade de Kégué for the first leg match, but reports indicate that, the Togolese FA has rejected their request.

This leaves Ivory Coast as Ghana’s only remaining option to host the crucial fixture against Sudan in the matchday three games.

Kwesi Appiah and his side will host the Black Stars at the Al-Merrikh Stadium in the second leg in the matchday four games.

However, the National Sports Authority (NSA) has closed the Baba Yara Stadium for renovations following the ban.

Both the Accra Sports Stadium and the Cape Coast Sports Stadium were also deemed unsuitable for international matches, prompting necessary upgrades and closures.

The Black Stars now aim for victory in the two matches against Sudan, following a 1-0 loss to Angola at the Baba Yara Stadium and a 1-1 draw against Niger.

Currently sitting third in Group F with just one point, Ghana is striving to secure a win as they pursue their fifth continental title.
