Federal lawmaker and husband of actress Mercy Johnson narrowly escaped an assassination attempt at his Uromi residence on Friday, September 20.
According to a statement from Prince Henry Odianosen Okojie’s media aide, Michael Ihaza, the attack was carried out by armed men suspected to be political thugs disguised as police officers.
The assailants entered Okojie’s home under the pretext of having an appointment, but their attempt was thwarted by security personnel assigned to the lawmaker.
Two of the attackers managed to flee the scene, while the driver and another accomplice were apprehended and are currently being interrogated by officers of the Nigeria Police Force’s Uromi Area Command.
The detained suspects reportedly confessed to being sent by local leaders of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Esan North East Local Government Area to assassinate him.
The incident is under investigation as law enforcement works to bring those responsible to justice.
