Meeting between Police, Democracy Hub on planned demo ends inconclusively

-

A meeting between the Ghana Police Service and Democracy Hub over their planned demonstration has ended inconclusively.

The group’s preferred site for the September 21 protest is the Revolution Square in front of the Jubilee House.
However, the Police have said the group has refused to change their routes though their proposed routes will endanger public defence, order, safety, health and the running of essential services.

These were contained in a statement signed by the Director of Ghana Police Public Affairs, ACP Grace Ansah Akrofi.

“Police, therefore, suggested the following seven locations to them for consideration. The Cantonments Post Oflice-DVLA stretch, the VAG Association Junction-MTN Head Office on the Liberation Road, El Wak Side Park, Obra Spot, Kawukudi Park, Efua Sutherland Park, the frontage of the Trade Fair,” the statement said.

The Police also rejected five alternative routes suggested by Democracy Hub and has warned of potential attacks on officers and critical installations.

The Police has further urged the organisers to caution their members against violating the court order.
